Welcome to Paving the Way, a digital collection of the work of President Walter A. Groves at Centre College, Danville, KY. Groves served as president of the college from 1948-1956, and one of his goals was admitting African-American students at Centre, a traditionally all-White college.

This digital library features letters, memorandums, newspaper articles, and more, written by Groves himself or during his tenure at Centre College. Groves communicated with other college presidents within and outside of Kentucky as he determined the best path for the desegreation of Centre College to take. This collection reflects Groves' determination to see the college desegregated, and the massive effort he put in to bringing it about.

All the materials in this collection are the property of Centre College, Danville, KY, and can be seen in the archives there at the Grace Doherty Library. This digital exhibit was created by Hannah Ensign-George, Class of 2015, MLS Indiana University, 2021.
