Digitization Standards

The items in the collection Paving the Way were digitized using the same standards and procedures. The archival master TIFF files are stored on a separate server. Access derivative copies of the archival masters were created and uploaded onto the omeka.net platform.

Software:

Epson scan utility was used to manage scanning process, adjust, and control color management. Additional adjustments were conducted using Adobe Photoshop 2020. 

Archival Image:

  • Format: TIFF
  • Resolution: 400ppi
  • Dimensions: 3000-6000 pixels across the long dimension
  • Bit depth: 8 bit color RGB (Epson Standard RGB- Gamma 1.8)
  • Compression: Preservation copy not compressed

Access Copies:

  • Format: JPEGs
  • Resolution: 300ppi
  • Dimensions: 2500-4500 pixels across the long dimension
  • Bit depth: 8 bit color RGB (Epson Standard RGB- Gamma 1.8)
  • Compression: LZW lossless compression

Transcription:

Except for the Faculty Surveys, all textual images have been transcribed to enable searchability within the digital library. ABBYY FineReader was used to produce plain text files, which were copied and added to the "Item Type Metadata" of each record. Corrections were done manually.
