Correspondence with Presidents of Northeastern Colleges
In October of 1951 Walter A. Groves sent a series of letters to presidents of prestigious colleges in the northeastern United States. He inquired to their policies of admission and hiring regarding race. None of these schools had restricted policies based on race, nor had they ever had such policies. Every president Groves wrote to responded, with responses ranging from the brief to more detailed.
Groves wrote to presidents from Wellesley College, Williams College, Haverford College, and Swarthmore College.
