Dear President Carter:
The two Synods of the Presbyterian Church in Kentucky have passed resolutions requesting that its institutions of higher education open their doors to qualified students of all races regardless of color. These resolutions will be placed before the Board of Trustees of Centre College of Kentucky at their fall meeting, October 30, 19<k* It would be of considerable help to our trustees if we had the latest accurate information concerning what our independent non-tax-supported institutions of higher education in Kentucky are doing on this matter
Will you be good enough, therefore, to send in your reply to the following questions in the enclosed self addressed envelop at your earliest convenience?
I hope that we can have this information prior to October 30th,
1. Does your present policy permit you to accept qualified Negro applicants? No rule or by-law preventing it.
2. If the policy does permit the acceptance of such applications any particular requirements governing the acceptance of Negro students, Negro students accepted on the same basis as all others?
3. Are there any Negro students enrolled in your institution this year? No.
4. If your present policy does not permit you to accept qualified Negro applicants, is it planned to alter that policy to enable you to do so?_____
If such is the plan when do you expect it to be put into effect?____
Very sincerely yours.
