Faculty in Support of Integration
These surveys were all completed by faculty in support of integrating the Centre College student body. While some facuty members expressed concern over the integration and the readiness of Centre to admit Negro students and those of "widely divergent races", they all supported the idea in general.
The Survey Questions:
1. Where were you born?
2. Sex, are you married, do you have children?
3. Were there Negroes, Mexicans, or Jewish students at the universities you have attended?
4. Please rank them in order of tolerance and sympathy as of that period, and now.
5. Would you participate in a professional program were Negros, Mexicans or Jewish people have been scheduled to appear?
6. Do you favor the admittance of Negroes or other widely divergent races to Centre College?
7. Would you have a positive or negative attitude toward such individuals were they in your classes?
8. Do you accept the President's Civil Rights Program in whole or in part?
9. Do you favor seperate educational facilities for Negroes at the college and university levels?
10. Do you accept or reject the principles of the Fair Employment Practice Act?
11. Would you attend a lecture or concert by some outstanding Negro personality?
12. Would you attend a dinner at the annual meeting of your professional society where Negroes, Indians, or Mexicans were expected to be there?
13. Would you be willing for any of the above groups to be a member of your church congregation?
14. Would you be willing to serve on the following bodies with members of the Negro race: juries, faculties, church governing boards, Congressional committees, faculty committees, and professional group committees. Please underscore the ones acceptable if any.
15. Please add in one paragraph of 100 words or less your opion of the Negro and the problem he presents as our largest minority group.
16. Please add anything further that might add to the value of the opinions being gathered.
